Japan overcame competition from Singapore, Kenya and Poland to become the country hosting the World Athletics Championship 2025. This tournament will take place in Tokyo.
Recently, Sport Singapore spokesman congratulated Tokyo: “Although this decision is disappointing for Singapore, we believe that through this election process, we have strengthened our relationship with the world athletics and proves the potential of Southeast Asia athletics.
We are still committed to bringing international sports events to Singapore. We will continue to pursue sports events in accordance with Singapore's strategic interests. ”
Sport Singapore (SportsG) is a committee under the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth of the Singapore Government. This is the agency assigned to develop a comprehensive sports culture for this country.
The World Athletics President – Mr. Sebastian Coe, also confirmed that Tokyo became the place to host the tournament by 2025.
“In a strong competitive competition, Tokyo made an attractive plan. I hope this will be a dazzling light for Japan when they celebrate the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the Japan Athletics Federation by 2025 by bringing world -class athletics back to Tokyo people,” Sebastian Coe said.
The World Athletics Championship takes place every two years, usually in even years. However, the 2020 World Athletics Championship has been delayed until 2021. Therefore, from 2023 onwards, this prestigious tournament will turn to odd years. The 2023 World Athletics Championship will take place in Budapest (Hungary).
