Accordingly, Kelvin Kiptum drove the car with two people, coach Gervais Hakizimana and a girl named Sharon Kosgey, when an accident was near Kaptagat, Kenya. According to witnesses, this car lost control, crashed into the tree and splashed 60m away. Kiptum and Hakizimana died on the spot. The girl is currently being rescued with critical condition.

Kelvin Kiptum is currently holding the record of the fastest marathon in the world with a record of 2 hours 00 minutes 35 seconds. He was the first man in the world to run a marathon under 2 hours 01 minute. Kiptum's achievement was made in Chicago in October 2023. He is currently a member of Kenya athletes preparing for the Paris Olympic Games 2024.
